Membership Categories
The IIPM is a membership oriented organization. The membership consists of eight (8) grades based on experience, responsibility, contribution to the industry and education level, namely;
- Honorary Fellow (Hon. FiiPM)
- Fellow (FiiPM)/ Fellow Certified Planter (FCP)
- Certified Planter (CP)
- Ordinary Member MiiPM
- Associate Member AiiPM
- Affiliate Member
- Student Member
- Corporate Member
Honorary Fellow
Honorary Fellows shall be distinguished or eminent persons whose membership of the IIPM shall in the opinion of the Council add prestige to or advance the interest of the Institute, and shall continue to be Honorary Fellow Member at the pleasure of the Council. Honorary Fellow Members shall not be eligible to vote at meetings of the Institute. An Honorary Fellow shall be entitled to use, after his name, the abbreviated designation “Hon. FiiPM”
Fellow Certified Planter / Fellow Member
A Fellow Certified Planter / Fellow grade shall in the opinion of the Council be a person of outstanding merit and has made significant contributions to the Institute and the plantation profession in Malaysia and abroad. A Fellow Certified Planter membership is eligible for those directly working in the upstream plantation industry sectors. A Fellow Member is eligible for those indirectly working with the industry. Fellow Certified Planters’ / Fellow Members’ memberships are subject to their subscription having been paid. They shall have the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting and the Extra Ordinary General Meetings of the Institute. A Fellow Certified Planter shall be entitled to use after his name the abbreviated designation “FCP”, and a Fellow Member “FiiPM”. The Fellow Certified Planter membership is open for applications to upgrade from the Certified Planter level.
Certified Planter
The Certified Planter grade is eligible for those directly working in the upstream plantation industry sectors. Certified Planters shall be persons that passed the Professional Interview conducted by the Institute AND fulfil at least one (1) of the following criteria:
i.A Senior Manager who holds the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) and with at least ten (10) years of working experience; OR
ii. A Senior Manager who holds a degree in plantation or agriculture-related disciplines, and with at least fifteen (15) years of working experience; OR
iii. A General Manager or equivalent or higher in the plantation upstream sectors.
Certified Planters, subject to their subscriptions having been paid, shall have the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting and Extra Ordinary General Meeting of the Institute. A Certified Planter shall be entitled to use, after his name, the abbreviated designation “CP”.
Ordinary Member
The Ordinary Member grade is eligible for those directly working in the upstream plantation industry sectors. An Ordinary Member shall be a person that holds the position of at least an Assistant Manager’s or equivalent, AND fulfil at least one (1) of the following criteria:
A person who holds the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE), with at least five (5) years of working experience; OR
A person who holds degree in plantation or agriculture-related disciplines, with at least ten (10) years of working experience; OR
A person who holds any other disciplines or related that are demonstrated and willing to help and wish in plantation industry and very much subjected to recommendation and discretion of the Council IIPM or Membership Committee.
Ordinary Members, subject to their subscriptions having been paid, shall have the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting and Extra Ordinary General Meetings of the Institute. An Ordinary Member shall be entitled to use, after his name, the abbreviated designation “MiiPM”.
Associate Member
The Associate Member shall be an individual belonging to a profession allied to the practice of upstream and downstream plantation management, by which, in the opinion of the Council, is acceptable. Other allied professions such as Mill Engineers, Lecturers, Agriculturalist, Environmental Consultants, Estate Contractors, Researchers, Ministry of Plantation Industry and Commodities (MPIC) officers and officers from agencies under MPIC related to plantation management can be an Associate Member of the Institute at the discretion of the Council.
An Associate Member may attend all the meetings of the Institute and speak at such meetings, but shall not have the right to vote.
Affiliate Member
The Affiliate Member grade is eligible for those directly or indirectly working in the upstream plantation industry sectors. An Affiliate Member shall be a person that fulfils at least one (1) of the following criteria:
i.A person who has graduated or completed from any IIPM certification program; OR
ii.A person who has graduated with a plantation or agriculture-related program from local and international higher learning institutions; OR
iii.A person who has interest in the plantation value chain but may not be qualified to reach higher IIPM grade of membership; OR
iv.A Supervisor with less than five (5) years of working experience in the plantation or agriculture-related industries.
Affiliate Members shall not be eligible to vote at meetings of the Institute.
Student Member
Student Members shall be persons who are undergoing certification programs conducted by the Institute and its Associate Partners. The Student Member grade is also eligible for those who are undergoing their PhD, Master’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma or Certificate in plantation and other agriculture-related disciplines at any government recognized higher learning institutions, either local or abroad.
Corporate Member
The Corporate Member shall be an organization allied to the upstream and downstream plantation industry, which in the opinion of the Council, is acceptable. Corporate Members shall not be eligible to vote at meetings of the Institute.
Membership Application Procedures
A member who has lost his Certificate of Membership or Membership Card shall be issued a duplicate certificate of Membership or Membership Card on application made by him and payment of the prescribed fees.
